Theres was a war against the french about 700 years ago and the english had a new weapon - the English longbow, the difference between the longbow and and other bowls of the time was , that it was so powerfull, effective, that at 300 yards, it could penetrate armour and was classed by the Pope in Rome as a weapon of the devil.
So, at the battle of Agincourt, the english were outnumbered by the french 4 to `1 , the english used the long bow to devastating effect.
Before the battle , the french king warned the english bowmen (archers) that
if they were captured, the frencn would cut off their 2 fingers, so the english wouldn't be able to use a bow .
The english won the battle of Agincourt , and thereafter whenever they fought the french , they showed their 2 fingers as an insult and this gesture has been used up to modern times though many people don't know it's origins.
